Kevin and Tonya Robbins
All
Believers share kinship in Christ, but Kevin and Tonja Robbins share an
intimate bond as well. They were married in 1996 and have a beautiful
daughter (Amy) in whom they are proud. Kevin's love of Christ and
willingness to serve him was fostered by his mother (Rachel) who often
sang gospel music and taught him harmony by saying, "get off my note and
find something else to sing!". Kevin played with the Lamplighters at age
15 and then attended the Stamps Baxter School of Music to study Quartet
and southern gospel music at age 16 and returned again at age 19. Kevin
joined the Nationaires Quartet (managed by Bob Hutchins) where he
remained until the group disbanded. Kevin and Tonja (who at age 10
became known as the "bus rat") spent the free time between singings
throwing Frisbee. Who would have thought that Tonja would mature to
become such a beautiful bride and constant companion in service! Kevin
then played and sang with Tribute, a family group, during the ages from
20 to 30. Tonja's singing roots run deep as well: her father Bob
Hutchins was an accomplished bass singer who loved the Lord and loved to
sing. Tonja began singing specials with her Dad and the Messengers at
age 14. As time passed, Tonja began singing more with the church choir,
church groups and doing solos. By age 28, Tonja and her dad started a
church quartet. Bob then got in touch with Kevin about reforming the
Messengers Quartet. For a blessed period of time, they all sang
together. Tonja was raised in a music filled Christian home and feels
very fortunate to have had the opportunity to share these precious times
with her dad. He was her father and perhaps more importantly, her
spiritual hero. Bob Hutchins went home to be with the Lord in 2003.
Kevin and Tonja's service in song is a living testimony of the power of
love in Christ. Kevin and Tonja enjoy the country life were blessed with
a beautiful horse farm in 1997. This love of horses and love for Christ
led to their involvement in 4B Chapel and the Triad Cowboy Church where
they are an integral part of the worship services.

I
started singing at a young age. My Mama said I used to stand on stools and sing
when I was about 5 years old. My love for music never stopped. I like a lot of
different kinds of music, but Southern Gospel was my “first love”, even at a
young age. My mom and dad used to take me to all of the local gospel singings
when I was young and I loved to hear the 3 and 4 part harmonies the different
groups could bellow out. I learned a lot from just watching and listening, but I
think GOD has to instill the talent in you. If HE does, you will have to use it,
or HE will take it away and give it to someone that will.
I married my wife, Beth, right out of high school, and 1 ˝ years later we had a
son, Joe. One year later we had another son, Mike. I was saved shortly after
Mike was born and started looking for someone to sing Gospel music with. I knew
that this was what the Lord was calling me to do. In 1971, I met Bob Hutchins
(Tonya’s Dad) and we resurrected a group that Bob was in a few years before
called the “Nationaires Quartet”. Shortly after that, Kevin, who was 17 years
old then, came to play keyboards for us. In 1976, my “baby girl”, Erin, came
along and my family was complete. As for the Nationaires, Bob left the group in
1978, but the group kept singing. We left Gospel in 1982 and spent some time in
secular music. The group disbanded in 1987.
I was content for a while not singing, but the desire to be in Gospel came back
quickly. I did some solo work in church, and helped with the choir, but still
felt empty at times. I knew deep down that GOD had intended for me to sing in
service to HIM, but each time I had a chance, it just didn’t seem right. I had
known Kevin and Tonya for several years, but hadn’t kept up with them much since
I stopped singing. One day my best friend, that I had sung with for many years,
called and said Revelation’s lead singer was leaving and Kevin needed a lead
singer. I decided to call him. I was reluctant at first, but GOD kept quietly
saying “call Kevin”. I did call in July of this year, we got together,
practiced, and the rest is history. Kevin and Tonya are great to sing with, and
very dedicated to GOD, and service to HIM in song. We have a great time
together.
I now have five grandchildren and they can come hear “Paw Paw” sing. GOD has
tremendously blessed me through the years, and stood by me, even when I did not
stand by HIM. To GOD be the praise and glory!
GOD bless each of you, and come out and help us worship with us sometime!
